What the Course Covers • Understanding safeguarding What safeguarding means, why it’s important, and how it applies in health and social care settings. • Adults at risk Identifying adults who may be vulnerable due to age, disability, mental health conditions, illness, or social circumstances. • Types of abuse and neglect Including physical, emotional, sexual, financial, discriminatory, institutional abuse, neglect, and self-neglect. • Recognising signs and indicators of abuse How to spot physical, emotional, behavioural, and environmental warning signs. • Legislation and policies Key laws such as the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding frameworks that guide practice (UK-focused). • Roles and responsibilities Understanding what is expected of support workers, carers, nurses, social workers, and managers. • Reporting and responding to concerns How to raise a safeguarding alert, record concerns accurately, and follow organisational procedures. • Person-centred and ethical practice Respecting choice, consent, dignity, confidentiality, and empowerment while ensuring safety. • Multi-agency working How health services, social services, police, and other professionals work together to protect adults.
